I've been having to use WinMerge to compare two code branches and one thing that kept on coming up was the ClearCase .copyare.db files. Since these files could be safely ignored for me, I needed way to filter them out from the directory diff.

Luckily, WinMerge has this ability.

In the 'Tools' menu, select 'Filters...', then in the 'Filefilters' tab select the 'Exclude Source Control' entry and click 'Edit...'.

Add the following to the filter file:
f: .copyarea.db ## ClearCase

Save the filter file and rerun the diff, the ClearCase files will not show up now.
