Facebook adds weather forecasts but forgets to adjust them to your time zone Facebook has added a new feature to its app that shows you a weather forecast based on your location. It's a neat feature to have and I tried it out for the first time this morning since we were on a weekend holiday and at a new location. To my surprise I noticed that at 8am local time Facebook was showing the forecast as 2am. No time zone adjustment! That's a big whoops and I'm surprised it was not caught before making this feature publicly available. Even though the displayed times are incorrect, the actual forecast looks to be showing up right.
Facebook Messenger app updated for Mother's Day with flower decorations The Facebook Messenger App has been updated in time for Mother's Day to allow you to decorate a message with flowers. By tapping the flower just above the 'Send' button will notify you that 'Your message will be decorated with flowers' and the resulting message will have a bunch of animated flowers around it.
Love them or hate them the new Facebook like emoticons are here They've been rumoured for a long time and today they've finally arrived. The new Facebook like emoticons are here on mobile and desktop Facebook. Personally I think this is a great addition. Instead of a single like option you can now 'like', 'love', 'haha', 'wow', 'sad' or 'angry'. Even though those don't work well as verbs they do get the point across!
Facebook finally has searchable stickers on iOS Ok so maybe this feature has been out for a couple of weeks now but I still find it really cool. The Android version of the Facebook App had searchable stickers for a long time, but this was not available in iOS until recently. It's easy to use and has a number of preset searches already but you can put in your own search terms too. The best part is you don't have to download the entire sticker album to use one particular sticker.
Sick of Facebook showing you daily memories, this is how you turn it off Facebook rolled out its 'On this Day' app recently and started forcing everyone to see daily memories on their news feeds. In principle this is a nice idea but personally I do not care for this functionality. Sadly there was no way to disable this app, but there is a way to prevent it from accessing your past posts which effectively turns this feature off. Here's how.
Facebook disables chat, leaves Adium dead in the water, but there is a solution Adium is a fantastic IM client for Mac, but unfortunately its been lacking updates in the recent times. When it comes to Facebook Chat, Adium used to work flawlessly with it, however over the past month or so it started to play up. First, I could not use the standard Facebook account support, it would ask me to authenticate over and over. I got around that by switching to the chat.facebook.com Jabber account, this allowed me to keep using my Facebook account with Adium for a time, but last weekend that finally stopped working too. This is happening in version 1.5.11b2 of Adium. Although it looks like Facebook chat support for Adium is gone, there is a way forward.
Integrating with Facebook using PHP and pre-authenticated tokens (part 1) I've been hacking at the FlatPress code for some time now and as one of the features I thought it was lacking was Facebook integration. I've experimented with adding Facebook posting features using the OAuth2 approach with the Facebook APIs but didn't particularly like those so I've decided to try the pre-authenticated tokens with the FacebookSession object and personally think it's a nicer solution.
