How to remove Google's logo from your G Suite applications
I've had Google's G Suite set up for my domains for quite some time and think it's fantastic. However, I have been a bit annoyed with the Google logo being plastered all over the G Suite apps. Further when I tried to change this logo to something of my own, it never sized properly, so I thought that the best solution was simply to remove Google's logo.

Make the new Gmail App delete messages instead of archiving
The new Gmail App has been released on iOS a couple of days ago and while going through the settings I noticed that deleted messages were set to Archive instead of being Moved to bin i.e. deleted. I think this is a bit undesirable, pressing delete should delete the message, so here's how to make sure it does!

How to remove missing songs from iTunes for free without any Apps
I've moved my music collection between media servers recently and so my iTunes library got a little bit messed up. There were lots and lots of missing files. I started looking into ways of removing these and quickly found various apps that would do it for you, but those were not free. If you don't mind fiddling with iTunes a little you can find and delete all of the missing songs in your library without any apps and without paying a cent. Here's how.

Configure DietPi to shut down after power button press on OdroidXU4
I went to the trouble of making an external power button for my Odroid XU4 and then found out that out of the box DietPi completely ignores this button being pressed. Luckily there is a way to make the OS shut down after the power button is pressed.

How to simplify a temporal data set for graphing in Google Drive Sheets
When I added a bunch of fans to my TV unit I ended up collecting lots of temporal temperature change data that was quite 'noisy'. Statistics is not my strong point so I was looking at a quick and easy way of cleaning this up for plotting and settled on something that can be done in a few steps in Google Drive Sheets.

Howto: Reset PrestaShop admin password in four easy steps
Getting locked out of your PrestaShop admin account can be a real pain, luckily there is a straight forward way to reset your password as long as you have access to the server that the shop is running on. For this you will need access to the server configuration file and the PrestaShop database via phpMyAdmin.

How to change unit type (metric vs imperial) for Yahoo Weather API with YQL
This is a short example on how to change unit type for Yahoo Weather YQL query. This may be an overlooked bit of information but is covered quite well in the Yahoo! Weather Documentation. Mind you this is the RSS feed documentation but since YQL uses this feed as a backend service, you can pass the same parameters into it as you would if you were using the RSS feed directly. This is done using a feature called remote filters.

Merge SVN repository subdirectory into an existing Git repository
I've written previously about how to do a one time non-standard SVN repository migration to Git which works fine if you want to move your entire SVN repo, but what if you want to move just a subfolder from SVN to Git? This is the guide for you.

Howto: Force null values to be highlighted in SQLDeveloper query results
I've written previously about a neat highlighting feature that SQL Developer has in a post about navigational filtering. There is another feature that is just as handy that allows you to automatically highlight all (null) values in the query results. This of course makes it very easy to see nulls at a glance and definitely eases the task of examining results for specific patterns.

How to get Google Talk working with Trillian and stop those 'Sign-in attempt prevented' emails
Even though Google Talk support has been deprecated by Google, you can still use it via third party clients like Trillian. I tried to do this and found that Google blocked my sign in attempt as they promised they'd start doing. There is a way around it however.

Migrating your PrestaShop store from one host to another
Recently I've had the task of migrating my dad's online store from the old web host to a new hosting provider. At first this seemed like a scary thing to do, but as I found out it was actually very straight forward and simple. This shows you the steps I took to move the entire PrestaShop installation and store content from one hosting provider to another.

Howto: Copy/move a directory between two Git repositories using a specific branch
We've been moving all our code from Subversion to Git at work. As we've gone through this activity it made sense to split up some of the repositories to separate some of the source files more logically. Specifically what we wanted to do was move all of rarely updated library and utility type projects into a 'utils' repository while keeping the frequently updated projects in a 'main' repository. The catch was that we had to do this on a 'development' branch and we wanted to preserve the history of the projects that were being split into their own repository.

Howto: One time migration from SVN to GitLab with non-standard SVN layout
I've finally got around to moving the SVN repository that supports all the source code for this blog to Git, specifically GitLab. There were a few hurdles and I came across and many existing articles were useful but didn't quite address my specific case.

How to remove images from Skype's 'Recents' profile pictures list in OSX
Skype allows you to change the picture that's displayed as your avatar, the (sometimes) unfortunate side effect is it keeps all of the previous pictures you used in its 'Recents' tab. I never really liked this kind of functionality, but do admit it can come in useful sometimes. In the case of Facebook you can delete the recent profile photos, but in Skype, at least on OS X there is no way to remove these recent pictures within the app itself. However, there is a more complicated way to remove them if you're willing to put a few minutes of your time into it.
