Continuous frame updates added to Trafficr and ExpressWayCam.com
About a month ago I made my Trafficr set of scripts available on GitHub and wrote a short intro about setting them up. The first version of those scripts worked pretty well but they were missing continuous frame updates. That meant that the web page would have to be manually refreshed to get updated cam frames. This version addresses that gap.

Set up a time lapse webcam with Trafficr
I've written previously about setting up a traffic webcam on OS X, well now I decided to move away from my old OS X Lion Server so couldn't use those scripts any more. This past weekend I took some time to rewrite my cam scripts to work on Linux and this is what I ended up with...

New Year's Eve Fireworks Cam at Southbank, Brisbane, Australia - short and sweet version
Now that I've had time to look through the live webcam footage and make some edits, the short and sweet version of the NYE 2014 Southbank Fireworks is uploaded now. I'm also including photos that I took during the fireworks.

New Year's Eve Fireworks Cam at Southbank, Brisbane, Australia
It's New Year's Eve and there will be fireworks at Southbank again. I've set up a cam to capture the events for those that can't make it there in person.

A low-tech fix to the traffic cam 'green reflection' problem
For a long time, I could not figure out what that green reflection was on the traffic cam at night, nor could I get rid of it, until recently. I was talking to a friend of mine, and something so simple hit us, it was the light on the camera causing the green glow! I was dumbfounded, but could not fix it right away as I was interstate. I finally tried it tonight and lo and behold, the camera light was the culprit.

Change to the traffic cam script to auto-sort by year/month/day into folders
As the traffic cam keeps taking photos every 5 minutes, the number of files in the archive directory quickly adds up, over the past 2 months there were around 12 thousand files. This was getting a little bit difficult to manage so I decided that it would be a good idea if the script automatically put these into directories sorted by year, month and day.

Webcam Tools (wacaw) vs ImageSnap for OS X webcam image capture
I've been running the Riverside Expressway Traffic Cam for some time now. One of the things that's been bothering me with it has been the image quality of night time shots. I've had a look around different apps that I could use for this purpose and it really came down to Webcam Tools (macaw) and ImageSnap. I looked at other tools and these either didn't work at all or were not compatible with OS X Lion Server.

Setting up a traffic webcam on OS X
I've had a number of people mention to me that I should have a webcam set up in my apartment because I am overlooking the river and the major road that runs beside it. After some thinking, I've decided to do just that. So here it is, this is how I've set up the Riverside Expressway Cam.
